Although he doesn't necessarily think of himself this way, Todd has been described as a serial entrepreneur by former investors. Todd prefers to see himself as someone who can recognize the inefficiencies in capital markets, and who can then exploit those inefficiencies as necessary, either for himself or for clients. Todd started his career with Putnam Investments and then moved on to Bank of Boston Securities, where he worked in Emerging Markets Investment Banking. From these large companies Todd then shifted his career to smaller, more nimble organizations, joining Ross Crossland Weston, a boutique technology-oriented investment bank based in Boston. At RCW Todd found the freedom to explore deal ideas and strategies that resulted in Todd being offered a partnership in the firm. It was during this time that Todd was responsible for leading the sale of DSPse to Tellabs, a transaction that bought Mr. McMahon together with Mr. Della Morte, the founder and CEO of DSPse. When the tech bubble began to pop in 2001, Mr. McMahon saw the opportunity to create a focused investment-banking boutique that could more effectively respond to the market needs of that time, and in 2002 Mr. McMahon formed Array Financial. Spinning key personnel of his team out of his former employer, Mr. McMahon reunited with Mr. Della Morte as well as other former colleagues and Array was born. Since its founding Array has serviced dozens of clients and has successfully closed numerous transactions.
Always looking to take advantage of market inefficiencies, Todd turned what most people would regard as an unpleasant headache and turned it into dynamic fast growing enterprise. In 2004 the septic system at Todd's residence failed. After making a series of phone calls to local service providers Todd was immediately struck by the low level of professionalism in the industry and the opportunity that it presented. Todd and Joe took a trip to the main trade show for the septic pumping industry and on the way back home Todd scratched out the basic business plan on the back of a Southwest Airlines cocktail napkin. From that napkin Todd recruited a management team, lined up the fist acquisitions, and secured the necessary capital to form Bluewater Hld. Todd took a hiatus from Array as he stayed with Bluewater as Chairman to secure the company's growth, and ensure that it executed on his vision through its first formative years.
Today Bluewater is one of the largest wastewater treatment companies on the east coast and continues to expand at double digit rates. No longer active in the day-to-day management of that company, Todd refocused his energy and attention on Array and continues to look for clients and opportunities that exhibit the same positive attributes that he saw with Bluewater.
Todd has his BA from UMASS / Boston and his MBA from Boston University. He is on the advisory board for the College of Arts and Sciences at UMASS Boston, and also sits on the board of directors of The Learning Center for the Deaf in Framingham, MA.
